MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Cortland field hockey team secured a spot in the SUNYAC playoffs with an 11-0 victory at Morrisville. The Red Dragons improved to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in the conference and are guaranteed one of the league's four postseason playoff berths.
Molly Miller (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) led Cortland with two goals and two assists.
Elizabeth Pratt (Saratoga Springs) finished with two goals and one assist, while
Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland) and
Lily Fox (Northport) scored two goals apiece. Ettere leads the Red Dragons with 11 goals this fall.
Freshman
Ava Passante (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) rang up a goal and four assists for her first collegiate points.
Jamie Snyder (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) and
Sidney DeMagistris (Gloversville) each totaled a goal and an assist. The points were for the first of the season for DeMagistris.
Cortland outshot the Mustangs, 46-0, and earned all 23 of the game's penalty corners. Morrisville goalie Morgan Dueber made 19 saves and Emma Platt had a defensive save for the Mustangs (3-8, 0-5 SUNYAC). Three Cortland goalies officially combined for the shutout.
Emma Morgan (Whitney Point) started and played 19:32.
Alaina Telenko (Elizabethtown, PA) saw 20:09 of action in the cage and
Maura Leib (East Syracuse/East Syracuse Minoa) played 20:19.
Cortland led 5-0 after one quarter and extended its lead to 8-0 at the half.
Cortland closes its conference regular-season schedule when it hosts New Paltz Saturday at 2 p.m.
