Corrigan Ties Assist Record in 5-3 Win at Hartwick

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Sophomore Hanna Corrigan (Barneveld/Holland Patent) was involved in all Cortland five goals, tying the program single-game record with four assists, as the Red Dragon field hockey team earned a 5-3 non-conference win at Hartwick College Wednesday afternoon. Corrigan became the fourth player in school history to record four assists in a game, which was last accomplished by Jess Gibaldi in 2018 and previously done by Kate Campbell in 2004 and Gina Carlo in 1992.

Corrigan also was one of five Cortland players to register a goal in the game. Sophomore Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland) tallied a goal and an assist, while senior Lily Fox (Northport), junior Sidney DeMagistris (Gloversville) and sophomore Sydney Reinisch (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) each scored a goal.

Freshman goalie Emma Morgan (Whitney Point) made three saves, and senior Elizabeth Pratt (Saratoga Springs) recorded a defensive save for the Red Dragons (12-3).

Sydney Gagnon, Faith Weaver and Holly Calore each tallied a goal for the Hawks (9-6). Leah Tolley registered two assists, and Julie Ruzzi contributed one assist. Goalie Madison Maddocks turned aside seven shots. Libby Fortin registered a defensive save.

Gagnon opened the scoring just 4:21 into the game, one-timing a shot into the left corner of the goal off a cross from Ruzzi from the right side. Fox tied the game only 1:36 later when she tapped in a pass from Corrigan at the right post after Corrigan intercepted an attempted clearing pass by Hartwick. Reinisch gave Cortland it's first lead with 10 seconds remaining in the first quarter with a blast from the left side of the circle into the upper right of the cage.

Ettere pushed Cortland's lead to 3-1 just past the midway point of the second quarter with her team-high 13th goal of the season, tipping in a Corrigan pass from the right side deep in the circle. Weaver answered at the 26:37 mark, sweeping in a shot inside the right post off Tolley's feed from the right side as the Red Dragons took a 3-2 lead into the half.

Calore tied the game at 3-3 with her goal off a deflection in front 4:38 into the third quarter, but DeMagistris notched the game winner just over six minutes later on Corrigan's record-tying assist. Corrigan intercepted an outlet pass, dribbled into the circle and fed a pass to the right post where DeMagistris tapped in a shot for the 4-3 Cortland lead. With 4:20 remaining, Ettere assisted on Corrigan's drive to give the Red Dragons a 5-3 lead. In the closing minute, Hartwick generated three penalty corners, forcing Pratt to make her defensive save with 35 seconds on the clock to seal the 5-3 victory.
