GENEVA, N.Y. – Junior
Mateo Marra (Ossining) scored two goals and assisted on another as the Cortland men's soccer team earned a 3-0 non-conference win at Hobart Tuesday afternoon at Cozzens Field. The Red Dragons improved to 7-3-2 on the season. The Statesmen fell to 4-3-3.
Sophomore
Matt Shultz (Oneonta) also scored a goal for Cortland, and sophomore
Cade Denlinger (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown Area) picked up an assist.
Freshman goalie
Luke van Galen (Georgetown, MA) made six saves for the Red Dragons in posting his second consecutive shutout. Goalie Guillermo Castaneda Chang registered two saves for Hobart.
Marra tallied the game-winning goal in the sixth minute when he took a pass from Denlinger and chipped a shot over Castaneda Chang for his fifth goal of the season.
Just 3:56 into the second half, Marra made it a 2-0 game when Hobart turned the ball over in its own 18 and Marra capitalized with his sixth goal of the campaign. Shultz completed the scoring in the 69th minute, taking a through ball from Marra and burying a shot for his seventh goal of the season for the 3-0 final.
