CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened their 2022-23 seasons with home dual-meet setbacks versus Geneseo, the defending SUNYAC champions. The Red Dragon men fell to the Knights, 168-73, and the women dropped a 165-77 decision.
Hunter Bernhardt (Groton) led the Cortland men with victories in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:14.48) and 500-yard freestyle (4:59.71).
Lasse Bieder (Cologne, Germany/Apostelgymnasium Köln) finished second in the 1,000 free (10:24.01) and
Kellen Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central) was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.23).
The combination of
Makiah Poli (Cortland/Home schooled), Dickman,
Ethan Domanico (New Windsor/Newburgh Free Academy) and
Sam Zani (Irondequoit) placed second in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:39.20.
Jake Bogen (Poughkeepsie/Spackenkill),
Trent deHaan (Greene),
Daniel Swift (Millerton/Webutuck) and
Mason Rowlands (Campbell Hall/Washingtonville) were runners-up in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:31.73).
Ashley Zachgo (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) led the Cortland women with victories on both the 1-meter (249.35 points) and 3-meter (250.75 points) diving boards.
Madi Monaghan (Chili/Gates Chili) won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.40 and was runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.41).
Leah Bernhardt (Groton) placed second in both the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:12.29) and 500-yard freestyle (5:34.71).
Nicole Bellettiere (Slate Hill/Minisink Valley) was runner-up in 1-meter diving (201.95 points), and the foursome of
Emily Lantry (Massena/St. Lawrence),
Emma Bogdanowicz-Wilson (Schenectady),
Julia Bryce (Rochester/School of the Arts) and Monaghan finished second in the 200-yard medley relay (1:54.57).
Cortland will host the Pumpkin Relays on Oct. 22 at 1 p.m.
