CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally second-ranked Hobart men's hockey team improved to 6-0 on the season with a 5-0 win at Cortland Saturday night in non-conference action. The Red Dragons dropped to 2-3-1.
Junior goalie
Jack Riedell (Greensboro, NC/Charlotte Rush) made 37 saves in his first start of the season for the Red Dragons. Freshman goalie Damon Beaver (Whitby, ON/Corpus Christi IceRays) registered 28 saves for the Statesmen.
Sophomore Luke Aquaro (Yardley, PA/Jersey Hitmen) led Hobart with two goals and an assist. Junior Jonah Alexander (Toronto, ON/Alabama Huntsville) tallied a goal and an assist, while junior Matthieu Wuth (Westminster, CO/Brockville Braves) and freshman Kahlil Fontana (Duncan, BC/Coquitlam Express) each netted a goal. Sophomore Shane Shell (Westfield, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) collected three assists, and four others each contributed one assist.
The Statesmen jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with goals from Aquaro at the 1:01 mark and Alexander just 28 seconds later. Hobart added three goals in the second period in a five-minute span, one each from Wuth, Fontana and Aquaro to take a 5-0 lead into the third period in which neither team scored.
