BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Cortland men's swimming and diving team finished in second place out of nine teams at the 2022 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships, which were held Feb. 16-19 at Erie Community College's Burt Flickinger Center.
Cortland finished with 616 points, placing behind only Geneseo (1,075) in the standings. New Paltz finished third with 432 points, followed by Oswego (358), Oneonta (319), Potsdam (270), Brockport (192), Buffalo State (187) and Fredonia (121). Cortland has finished in second place in three of the last four SUNYAC meets since 2018 (2021 was canceled), and the Red Dragons have been a top-four finisher in each of the last 18 championships. Geneseo won its eighth straight league title.

Cortland earned all-league honors in three events during Saturday's final day of competition.
Sean Zupko (Montgomery/Valley Central) finished third in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:34.17),
Josh Chamak (New City/Clarkstown North) was third in the 200-yard backstroke (1:56.55), and the 400-yard freestyle relay team of
Aiden Poli (Cortland/Home schooled),
Sam Zani (Rochester/Irondequoit),
Ethan Domanico (New Windsor/Newburgh Free Academy) and Chamak placed third in 3:11.69.
The top three finishers in each event earn All-SUNYAC honors. Winners are first team, runners-up are second team and third-place finishers are third team. Each athlete's top event finish at the meet is used to determine their official all-league placement.
Two other Red Dragons picked up top-eight finishes in the 1,650 freestyle -
Mason Rowlands (Campbell Hall/Washingtonville) finished in fifth place (17:05.72) and
Patrick Kivlehan (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) was sixth (17:14.66). Domanico, Zani and Arnberg joined the list of Cortland individuals who qualified for "A" final on Saturday. Domanico was sixth in the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.03, 1:57.69 prelims), Zani finished eighth in the 100-yard freestyle (48.93, 48.07 prelims), and Arnberg placed eighth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:10.25).
Cortland's other scorers during the final day included:
Jack Pagel (Cortlandt Manor/Walter Panas) in both the 200-yard backstroke (11th, 2:05.12) and 200-yard butterfly (14th, 2:09.38);
Nick Dambra (Brockport) (10th, 48.26), Poli (12th, 48.82),
Alex Hilldale (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) (13th, 48.98) and
Mo Diarra (Harlem/East Side Community) (14th, 49.70, 49.49 prelims) in the 100-yard freestyle;
Jake Bogen (Poughkeepie/Spackenkill) (12th, 2:06.40, 2:05.61) and
Danny Swift (Millerton/Webutuck) (15th, 2:10.87) in the 200-yard butterfly; and
Ryan Lerner (Washingtonville) in the 200-yard breaststroke (14th, 2:16.97).
