SALEM, VA. – Ten different players scored goals as the Cortland men's lacrosse team earned a 15-11 non-conference victory at Roanoke Tuesday afternoon to improve to 2-3 on the season. The Maroons dropped to 4-3.

Dante Yacavone (Homer) led the Red Dragons offensively with six points on four goals and two assists. Graduate student
Zak Jones (East Quogue/Westhampton Beach) tallied two goals and two assists, and freshman
Klay Stuver (Fairport) netted the first two goals of his career. Graduate student
Brandon Stiles (Mastic/Eastport-South Manor) and junior
Tyler Starrett (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) picked up a goal and an assist, while seniors
Troy Morris (Long Beach) and
Pat Doyen (Miller Place), junior

Joe DeLany (Camillus/West Genesee) scored one goal apiece.

Travis Wagner (Penfield) matched his season high with 17 saves for Cortland. Freshman
Connor Aspinall (Syracuse/Fayetteville-Manlius) won 11-of-21 faceoffs and scooped up a game-high 10 ground balls. Doyen added five ground balls, senior
Justin Wainwright (Homer) finished with five ground balls and two caused turnovers and senior
Dominick Natale (Homer) contributed three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Luke Kammerman scored a game-high five goals for Roanoke. Wyatt Whitlow netted three goals, Ethan Caldwell tallied one goal and two assists, George Gilbert and Aidan Sullivan chipped in with a goal and one assist.
Goalie Taylor Lewis made seven saves and caused two turnovers for the Maroons. Sullivan won 7-of-13 faceoffs, secured seven ground balls and caused three turnovers.
Cortland jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the opening quarter as four different players found the back of the net. Roanoke outscored the Red Dragons, 5-3, in the second quarter to pull to within 7-6 at the half.
After Whitlow tied the game at 7-7 at the 11:09 mark of the third quarter, Doyen, Starrett and Jones gave Cortland a 10-7 lead late in the third quarter. After Gilbert's goal at 3:25 of the quarter, the Red Dragons took control of the game with a five-goal run, two coming from Yacavone, spanning the end of the third quarter to past the midway point of the fourth quarter for a commanding 15-8 lead. Roanoke netted the last three goals of the game for the 15-11 final.
