#17 Cortland Drops Road Game at #7 St. John Fisher

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Eleven different players scored at least one goal as the nationally seventh-ranked St. John Fisher men's lacrosse team defeated 17th-ranked Cortland, 20-8, Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action. With the loss, the Red Dragons' record evened at 1-1, while the Cardinals improved to 2-0.

Graduate student Zak Jones (East Quogue/Westhampton Beach) paced the Cortland offense with three goals. Graduate student Brandon Stiles (Mastic/Eastport-South Manor) netted two goals, junior Jason Chiodo (Hamburg) and freshman Caden Yancey (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) each recorded one goal and one assist, freshman Joe DeLany (Camillus/West Genesee) scored a goal and sophomore Colton Smith (South Bristol/Penn Yan Academy) chipped in with an assist. The goals for Yancey and DeLany were the first of their careers.

Sophomore Travis Wagner (Penfield) started in goal for Cortland, making three saves in 25:17. Sophomore Evan Alfano (Webster/Webster Schroeder) turned aside three shots in 34:43. Senior Dominick Natale (Homer) recorded four ground balls and two caused turnovers, Jones secured three ground balls and graduate student Jacob Rivers (Homer) and junior Jake Smeader (Hamburg) each caused two turnovers. Freshman Jack O'Brien (Babylon) won 4-of-6 faceoffs.

Ian Evans led St. John Fisher with five goals. Nichols Miller recorded four goals and one assist. Jack Mulvihill tallied two goals and two assists, Jordan Depetres scored twice, Brennan O'Brien and Jordan Leuze notched one goal and one assist apiece and five others each netted a goal.

Goalie Ben Hammond stopped 10 shots in 54:04, before giving way to Brandon Moore, who made two saves in 5:56. Joe Post won 16-of-20 faceoffs and collected 13 ground balls, Logan Grom won 5-of-8 faceoffs and secured four ground balls and Hammond finished with four ground balls.
