CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally 23rd-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 12-2 lead at the half and earned a 17-4 victory versus New Paltz Wednesday afternoon in SUNYAC action at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons won their seventh consecutive game, improving to 8-4 overall and 5-0 in the conference. The Hawks fell to 3-7 and 1-3.
Sophomore
Toni Cashman (East Moriches/Westhampton Beach) paced the Cortland offense with four goals. Senior
Lauren Hopsicker (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) tallied a game-high five points on three goals and two assists, and graduate student
Hannah Lorenzen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) netted three goals.

Paige Potter (Cortland) turned aside five shots and collected two ground balls for Cortland. Graduate student
Kayla Sweeney (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) scooped up four ground balls, and senior
Amanda Squillini (Stony Point/North Rockland) secured three ground balls.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Shaw (Rye Brook/Blind Brook) led New Paltz with two goals. Senior Katie Zito (Glenmont/Bethlehem) registered a goal and an assist, and freshman Alyssa Indelicato (Selden/Newfield) added a goal.
Sophomore Hailey Aber (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) made four saves for the Hawks. Junior Cayci Hill (Cortlandt Manor/Walter Panas) caused two turnovers, junior Shannon Brosnan (Valhalla) won eight draw controls and Shaw contributed three ground balls and three draws.
Cortland opened a 6-1 lead after the first quarter as five different players scored. The lead grew to 12-2 at intermission as Lorenzen and Hopsicker each netted two goals in the second quarter. Cashman scored the lone goal of the third quarter as the entire second half was played with a running clock. The Red Dragons pushed their advantage to 16-2 just past the midway point of the fourth quarter with goals from Lorenzen, Goebel and Stamboly. Shaw netted back-to-back goals just over two minutes apart inside the five-minute mark before Schaut completed the scoring with 20 seconds on the clock for the 17-4 final.
