Cortland Dominates Oneonta in SUNYAC Action, 22-5

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Eleven different players scored goals as the Cortland men's lacrosse team improved to 7-6 overall and 4-0 in the SUNYAC with a dominating 22-5 victory versus Oneonta Friday night at the Stadium Complex. Oneonta dropped to 2-9 and 1-3 with the loss.

Seniors Dante Yacavone (Homer) and Troy Morris each scored a game-high four goals for Cortland with Yacavone adding an assist. Junior Austin Palmer (Hamburg/St. Francis) tallied a season-high four points on three goals and an assist, senior Pat Doyen (Miller Place) finished with a season-high seven points on two goals and a career-best five assists, freshman Ryan Scanlon (Cornelius, NC/William Amos Hough) scored a season-high five points on two goals and three assists and junior Tyler Starrett (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) netted a pair of goals.

Senior Christopher Dovi (Cortland) tallied a goal and two assists, freshman Joe DeLany (Camillus/West Genesee) recorded a goal and an assist, and junior Sean Barrett (Lynbrook) and freshman Caden Yancey (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) each notched a goal.

Sophomore Travis Wagner (Penfield) started in goal for the host Red Dragons, making seven saves and allowing four goals in 46:44. Junior Matt Stento (Bethlehem) stopped one shot in 9:13, and freshman Owen Folkwein (Avon, CT/Avon) did not face a shot on goal over the final 4:03. Freshman Owen Neubauer (Monroe-Monroe-Woodbury) won 14-of-24 faceoffs and scooped up six ground balls. Junior Jake Smeader (Hamburg) secured six ground balls, senior Justin Wainwright (Homer) collected four ground balls, and senior Dominick Natale (Homer) and Palmer each finished with three ground balls.

Senior Dean Cannon (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) paced Oneonta's offense with three goals. Junior Kieran Rowley (Long Beach) tallied two goals and an assist, and juniors Connor Gallagher (Montrose/Hendrick Hudson) and Jack Dinnegan (Baluvelt/Tappan Zee) each recorded an assist.

Junior Luke Mignoli (Long Beach) started in goal for the visiting Red Dragons, making six saves in 28:44. Sophomore Harrison Boukas (North Massapequa/Plainedge) registered two saves in 25:07, and senior Jordan Berson (Old Bethpage/JFK) stopped two shots in the final 6:09. Senior Timothy Shanley (West Hempstead) won 12-of-23 faceoffs and collected four ground balls, and freshman Stephen Barikyan (Tappan/Tappan Zee) secured five ground balls.
