Fourth-Quarter Surge Leads to 13-11 Win at Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cortland men's lacrosse team scored six consecutive goals in the fourth quarter to overcome a two-goal deficit and earned a 13-11 victory at Ithaca Wednesday night in non-conference action.  The game between the programs was the first since the 2019 season. The Red Dragons improved to 8-6 with their fifth straight win. The Bombers dropped to 10-4.

Senior Pat Doyen (Miller Place) led Cortland's offense with four goals. Graduate student Zak Jones (East Quogue/Westhampton Beach) netted three goals, senior Dante Yacavone (Homer) scored twice, graduate student Brandon Stiles (Mastic/Eastport-South Manor) tallied one goal and three assists and senior Troy Morris (Long Beach) added a goal and an assist. Senior Christopher Dovi (Cortland) and junior Tyler Starrett (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) each scored a goal, and freshmen Alex Thrasher (Vestal) and Ryan Scanlon (Cornelius, NC/William Amos Hough) chipped in with one assist apiece.

Sophomore goalie Travis Wagner (Penfield) registered 13 saves for the Red Dragons. Freshman Owen Neubauer (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) won 12-of-22 faceoffs. Sophomore Matt Amato (Kingston) scooped up four ground balls and caused three turnovers. Graduate student Jacob Rivers (Homer) collected five ground balls, Dovi secured four ground balls and junior Jake Smeader (Hamburg) finished with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Blake Eischen paced Ithaca's offense with three goals and an assist, and Jake Erickson also netted three goals. Charlie Niebuhr scored twice, Connor Brumfield tallied a goal and an assist and John Sramac and Drew Turner each added a goal.

Goalie Ryan Laforty made 13 saves. Chase Gulick won 11-of-22 faceoffs, grabbed six ground balls and added an assist.
