Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Another Big Win for Women's Lacrosse, 23-2, at Buffalo St.

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The nationally 21st-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team scored the first 13 goals of the game and earned a 23-2 victory at Buffalo St. Saturday afternoon in the regular-season finale for both teams. The Red Dragons won their 12th straight game, improving to 13-4 overall and 9-0 in the SUNYAC, and will host the winner between Oswego and Oneonta in the conference semifinals next Friday.

Fourteen different Cortland players scored goals in the game. Senior Lauren Hopsicker (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) led the way with three goals and four assists. Senior Hannah Keech (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) finished with three goals and three assists, and freshman Gabby Meager (Syracuse/West Genesee) also netted three goals.

Junior Matisyn Schaut (Syracuse/West Genesee) contributed a career-best five points on two goals and three assists. Graduate student Hannah Lorenzen (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) tallied two goals and two assists, senior Amy Hoeffner (Bay Shore) recorded two goals and one assist, junior Madelyn Czyz (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) registered one goal and two assists and junior Rachel Janis (Laurel/Mattituck) added one goal and one assist. Graduate student Emily Goebel (Penfield), senior Katie Goodrich (Jordan/Jordan-Elbridge), junior Sydney Stamboly (Rome/Rome Free Academy), sophomores Allie Alaimo (Wantagh) and Danielle Regan (Brewster) and freshman Eva Kloepfer (Syracuse/West Genesee) each notched a goal.

Graduate student Paige Potter (Cortland) stopped one shot in goal for the Red Dragons. Czyz caused four turnovers and scooped up two ground balls. Keech and Schaut each caused two turnovers, and Hoeffner secured five draw controls.

Julia Wachna and Liz Schultheis scored goals for the Bengals (6-9, 2-7 SUNYAC). Sarah Fineour contributed an assist and three draw controls. Lauren Rinow recorded three caused turnovers and two draws. Goalie Janae Nelson made seven saves.
