#19 Cortland Beats Ithaca in Battle of Unbeatens, 2-1, on Ettere Overtime Goal

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland) scored 38 seconds into sudden-victory overtime to lift nationally 19th-ranked Cortland past visiting Ithaca College, 2-1, in a matchup of unbeaten teams. Cortland improves to 4-0 with the victory, while Ithaca drops to 4-1.

Cortland outshot Ithaca, 14-4, and held a 15-4 advantage in penalty corners, but the Red Dragons trailed, 1-0, after Ithaca's Natalie Descalso scored with 3:46 left in the third quarter. Emma Garver received a pass at the top of the circle to start a penalty corner play and fed the ball to her left, where Descalso knocked home a shot inside the left post for her third goal of the season.

The Red Dragons knotted the game with 10:18 left in regulation, also off a penalty corner. Lily Fox (Northport) inserted the ball to start the corner. Hanna Corrigan (Barneveld) controlled the ball, dribbled just inside the top of the circle and blasted home a shot for her second tally of the year.

In the 7-versus-7 overtime period, Cortland controlled the ball and quickly earned a penalty corner. Corrigan had her shot during the corner saved by Ithaca goalie Macy Branwein, and Ettere gathered up the rebound at the left side of the circle. Ettere then dribbled through the circle to the right side and unleashed a shot from about 13 yards out that found the cage for her fourth goal of the year and the game winner.

Brandwein finished with six saves for Ithaca, including three in the fourth quarter and one in overtime, while Emma Morgan (Whitney Point) recorded one save for Cortland.

Cortland will travel to William Smith Saturday for a 12 p.m. non-league game.
