CORTLAND, N.Y. – Three different players scored goals as the nationally 17th-ranked Cortland men's soccer team earned a 3-1 victory versus Rowan Wednesday night in non-conference action at Holloway Field. The Red Dragons improved to 4-2. The Profs dropped to 3-3-1.

Junior Mateo Marra (Ossining) and sophomores Matt Shultz (Oneonta) and Yasin Choukri (Wilton, CT) each tallied a goal for Cortland. Senior Ian Blugh (Staten Island/Curtis) collected an assist. Freshman goalie Luke van Galen (Georgetown, MA) registered four saves.

Junior Mason Martelloni (Tinton Falls, NJ/Monmouth Regional) scored Rowan's goal. Junior goalie Tomas Lazicki (Atlantic Highlands, NJ/Henry Hudson) turned aside seven shots.

Marra gave Cortland a 1-0 lead in the third minute when he buried a low shot inside the right post from the left side of the box after a long carry.

Less than a minute into the second half, the Profs had an excellent chance to score the equalizer, but van Galen made a save on Rowan senior Chad Yates' (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) uncontested shot right in front from six yards out. Shultz scored his team-high fifth goal of the season in the 51st minute, blasting a one-time shot on the right side off a long serve from Blugh from the left.

Choukri made it a 3-0 score in the 61st minute. After a Cortland shot rang off the crossbar, Choukri chased down the loose ball and bent a shot from a sharp angle on the left side inside the right post. The Profs cut into the lead 38 seconds later. After Rowan put a corner kick into the box, a Cortland defender headed the ball back to van Galen but the ball was never controlled and Martelloni finished off the play with a one-time shot from the middle of the box.

In the 73rd minute, the Profs nearly made it a one-goal game, but freshman Ryan Gale (Runnemede, NJ/Triton) slid a shot from the left side just outside of the far post. Rowan continued to press late in the game, putting several dangerous balls into the box, but the Red Dragons were able to clear the chances out of danger and hold on for the 3-1 victory.
