POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Potsdam men's soccer team twice erased one-goal second-half deficits and played to a 2-2 tie versus 13th-ranked Cortland Wednesday night in a SUNYAC matchup.
Juniors
AJ Ali (Rochester/Brighton) and
Jack Coleman (Newark Valley/Maine-Endwell) scored for the Red Dragons (4-3-2, 0-0-2 SUNYAC). Sophomore
Cade Denlinger (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown Area) recorded an assist. Freshman goalie
Luke van Galen (Georgetown, MA) stopped two shots.
Owen Santos and Anderson Velasquez each netted goals for the Bears (4-1-2, 0-0-1). Donny Ophals contributed an assist. Goalie Lucas Schiel registered seven saves.
After a scoreless first half, Ali gave Cortland a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute with his fourth goal of the season on an unassisted effort. Santos answered just 52 seconds later to tie the score at 1-1. Coleman gave the Red Dragons back the lead in the 65th minute, scoring his second goal of the season off an assist from Denlinger. Velasquez tied the game in the 80th minute with his sixth goal of the season. Cortland generated five shots in the final 10 minutes of the game, but two were blocked, one went wide and Schiel denied the other two to keep the game tied at 2-2.
