OSWEGO, N.Y. – The nationally 13th-ranked Cortland men's soccer team opened up a 5-0 lead at the half and earned a 5-2 win at Oswego Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action. The Red Dragons improved to 5-3-2 overall and 1-0-2 in the conference, while the Lakers dropped to 1-4-1 and 0-2.
Junior
Jack Coleman (Newark Valley/Maine-Endwell) recorded a hat trick to pace the Cortland offense. Junior
Mateo Marra (Ossining) tallied a goal and two assists, sophomore
Matt Shultz (Oneonta) registered a goal and an assist and junior
Marco Cottone (Syosset) chipped in with two assists. Freshman goalie
Luke van Galen (Georgetown,MA) made five saves.
Kieran Gilroy and Brendan Murphy scored goals for Oswego. Zach Ward picked up an assist. Matt D'Arpino and Andrew Bourjollu split time in goal with neither making a save.
Coleman notched three of Cortland's first four goals, scoring in the 16th, 23rd and 38th minutes. Marra's goal came in the 21st minute, and Shultz netted his goal 1:58 before halftime. Gilroy scored in the 68th minute before Murphy tallied his goal in the 71st minute for the 5-2 final.
