SCRANTON, PA. – The Cortland women's tennis team posted an 8-1 non-league victory over host Marywood University to improve to 3-1 on the season.
The Red Dragons led, 2-1, after doubles play.
Logan Streety (Elma/Iroquois) and
Karlie Cubino (Marcy/Whitesboro) won, 8-5, at second doubles and
Isabella Bonapace (Leonia, NJ) and
Emily Morano (Olyphant, PA/Mid Valley) won, 8-4, at third doubles. Marywood's (1-4) first doubles unit of Allison Bashore and Gabriella Nowak edged
Abby Madigan (Endicott/Union-Endicott) and
Vyda Van Denburg (Kingston), 8-6.
Cortland swept singles play, with four matches in straight sets and two decided by a super tiebreaker in place of a third set once the team outcome was decided. Madigan earned a 6-1, 6-4 win at first singles, Van Denburg won, 6-0, 6-2 at third singles,
Emma Madigan (Endicott/Union-Endicott) didn't lose a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win at fifth singles, and Morano won, 6-2, 6-2, at sixth singles
At second singles, Streety lost the first set, 3-6, but won the second, 6-1. She posted a 10-4 win in the super tiebreaker to 10 points for the victory. Cubino won her first set at fourth singles, 6-4, but lost the second, 7-5. She won the 10-point super tiebreaker, 10-7, to claim the victory.
