CORTLAND, N.Y. – Four different players scored goals as the Cortland women's soccer team remained unbeaten with a 4-0 victory versus Oswego Saturday afternoon in a SUNYAC match up at Holloway Field. The Red Dragons improved to 5-0-3 overall and 2-0-1 in the conference. The Lakers fell to 5-3-1 and 0-2.
Graduate student
Jaden Galluzzo (Commack) recorded a goal and two assists to lead the Cortland offense. Juniors
Cam Stone (Ilion) and
Simone Neivel (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) and freshman
Rachael Ehrlich (South Setauket/Ward Melville) each added a goal, and junior
Kayla Valerioti (Oakdale/Connetquot) collected an assist.
Sophomore goalie
Kristen Spendal (Dumont, NJ) made one save in posting the shutout for the Red Dragons. Sophomore Perri Anderson (Cornwall/Cornwall Local) started in goal for Oswego, making two saves in the first half. Junior Haley Muehl (Syracuse/Solvay) played the second half, stopping three shots.
Galluzzo gave Cortland a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute with her team-high seventh goal of the season. Valerioti fed a through ball into the box, and Galluzzo hit a shot that deflected off Anderson's hands and the crossbar before settling inside the left post. Stone's first goal of the season put Cortland ahead 2-0 in the 39th minute, scoring on a header off Galluzzo's corner-kick service. After an Oswego hand ball in the box, Neivel converted the penalty kick in the 40th minute for a 3-0 Red Dragon lead at the half.
Ehrlich completed the scoring in the 60th minute, notching her second goal of the season off a header on another Galluzzo corner kick, for the 4-0 final.
