CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally 18th-ranked Cortland field hockey team scored goals in the first, second and fourth quarters and held Rochester to four shots to earn a 3-1 victory Tuesday night in non-conference action at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 2-0 with the win. The Yellowjackets suffered their first defeat, falling to 2-1.

Madison Rice (Greene/Greene Central) and sophomores
Jamie Snyder (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) and
Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland) each tallied goals for Cortland. Senior
Elizabeth Pratt (Saratoga Springs) recorded an assist. Freshman goalie
Emma Morgan (Whitney Point) turned aside two shots.
Junior Bella Militi (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) scored Rochester's goal with senior Karina Bridger (Briarcliff/Hackley) collecting an assist. Sophomore Helen Schmitter (Ann Arbor, MI/Community) started in goal, making three saves in the first half. Freshman Kara Houston (Woodstock/Kingston) registered one save in the second half.
Snyder gave Cortland a 1-0 lead 7:51 into the game with her second goal of the season, deflecting a pass from Pratt past Schmitter on a penalty corner play. Militi tied the game at 1-1 three minutes before the end of the first quarter with a deflection of her own from the middle of the circle.
Ettere tallied the game winner 2:18 into the second quarter. She possessed the ball on the left side of the circle, worked toward the middle and drove a shot inside the left post for her first goal of the season. Rice sealed the win with 1:29 to play. After Houston denied a shot by Pratt on a penalty corner, Rice cleaned up the rebound for her second goal of the season for the 3-1 final.
