Red Dragon Women Earn Third-Place Finish at RPI Meet

TROY, N.Y. - The Cortland women's swimming and diving team finished third out of five schools at the RPI Kumpf Invitational. Ithaca won the title with 660 points, followed by RPI (525), Cortland (423), Skidmore (354) and The College of New Jersey (60).
 
In the dual scoring at the meet, Cortland went 2-2 with wins over Skidmore (156-86) and TCNJ (179-20) and losses to Ithaca (178-65) and RPI (147-95).
 
Leah Bernhardt (Groton) won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:22.02, edging Erin Kiley of Ithaca by less than four tenths of a second. She was also third in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:05.63). Julia Bryce (Rochester/School of the Arts) placed second in the 200-yard IM (2:15.82) and third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:34.18). Caitlin Elsasser (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) finished second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:20.03).
 
Emily Lantry (Massena/St. Lawrence) registered a third-place showing in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.69) and a fourth-place effort in the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.85). Ashley Zachgo (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) finished third in 1-meter diving (263.00 points) and eighth in 3-meter diving (202.45 points), and Areiannah Martinez-Reyes (Queens/Benjamin Cardozo) was fourth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:21.21).
 
Kaila O'Hara (East Islip) finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.26) and sixth in the 100-yard freestyle (56.54). Sophie Amering (Rochester/Hilton) was sixth in the 500-yard freestyle (5:40.12) and seventh in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:42.10), while Nicole Murphy (Saratoga Springs) placed seventh in the 50-yard freestyle (26.50) and eighth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:00.09).
 
Other Cortland top-eight finishes included seventh-place efforts by Adriane Casey (West Islip) in 3-meter diving (204.25 points) and Mackenzie Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:42.05), and eighth-place showings by Alayna Miller (Hilton) in the 50-yard freestyle (26.69) and Emma Bogdanowicz-Wilson (Schenectady) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:42.83).
 
In the relays, Lantry, Dickman, Bryce and Miller finished fourth in the 400-yard medley relay (4:17.79) and Elsasser, Amering, Murphy and Bernhardt placed fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay (4:00.66).
 
Cortland will travel to Oswego for a dual meet on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
