OSWEGO, N.Y. – Sophomore
Domenic Settimo (East Meadow/P.A.L. Junior Islanders) scored his team-high 13th goal of the season 1:06 into overtime as the Cortland men's hockey team upended nationally 10th-ranked Oswego, 4-3, in SUNYAC action Friday night on the road. The Red Dragons improved to 12-7-1 overall and 7-4 in the SUNYAC with their third conference overtime win of the season. The Lakers dropped to 12-7-1 and 8-3.
The last time Cortland earned a win at Oswego, 5-2, was Dec. 6, 1994, when current Detroit Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde was in goal for the Red Dragons.

Connor Gatto, Tommy Cahill and Alex DiCarlo netted goals for Oswego. Shane Bull picked up two assists, and Ryan Dickinson, Trent Grimshaw and Troy Robillard contributed one assist. Goalie Cal Schell made 24 saves.
Knowlton opened the scoring 1:53 into the first period, scoring on a rebound in front after a save by Schell in close on Donegan. Gatton tied the game at 16:37 when he took a pass in front, deked Durante and slid the puck in the open net. The Lakers grabbed a 2-1 lead just 56 seconds later as Cahill scored on the backhand from a sharp right-side angle. Beaudry knotted the game with 54 seconds remaining in the period, scoring on a wrist shot from the right circle.
Grupp netted the only goal of the second period on the power play at 10:40. After a faceoff win in Oswego's defensive zone, Grupp fed a pass to Serio who found Settimo in the slot. Settimo put a shot on goal that Schell denied, but Grupp skated down low on the left side of the crease and cleaned up the rebound in front to put Cortland ahead 3-2. The Red Dragons then killed off two power-play opportunities by Oswego shortly after, including 57 seconds of being two-men down, to hold the lead heading into the final period.
DiCarlo pulled Oswego even at 5:35 of the third period, sending a shot inside the right post from between the circles. Cortland needed to kill off two power-play chances for the Lakers in the second half of the period to keep the game knotted at 3-3 and send it to extra time.
Each team had early chances in overtime with the teams skating three aside, but each goalie came up with big saves. Settimo clinched the win for the Red Dragons when he took a pass from Veneklase at Cortland's blue line, skated into Oswego's zone behind the net and scored on a wraparound shot at the left side for the 4-3 victory.
