Cortland Men and Women Defeat Oneonta on Senior Day

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland swimming and diving teams celebrated Senior Day with dual-meet victories over visiting Oneonta. The Cortland women earned a 187-97 victory, while the Red Dragon men won 182.5-79.5. 
 
Prior to the meet, Cortland recognized its seniors - Nicole Belletiere (Slate Hill/Minisink Valley) (not in attendance), Kaitlin Camacho (Huntington/St. Dominic), Adriane Casey (West Islip), Nicole Murphy (Saratoga Springs) and Ashley Zachgo (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) on the women's side, and Aiden Poli (Cortland/Home schooled) and Daniel Swift (Millerton/Webutuck) on the men's side. 
 
Cortland wraps up its regular-season schedule next Saturday with a 1 p.m. dual meet at Fredonia. 
 
Women's Recap: 
 
Three Red Dragons posted two individual wins each to help fuel the victory. Emily Lantry (Massena/St. Lawrence) won the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.31) and 500-yard freestyle (5:35.56), Julia Bryce (Rochester/School of the Arts) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:18.70) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.89), and Zachgo won both 3-meter diving (443.63 points) and 1-meter diving (486.75 points). 
 
Leah Bernhardt (Groton) won the 1,650-yard freestyle (18:59.97), Kaila O'Hara (East Islip) captured the 50-yard freestyle (27.26), Sophia Boccio (Garden City) won the 100-yard freestyle (1:00.93) and Emma Bogdanowicz-Wilson (Schenectady) won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:41.29). Cortland also won both relays - Lantry, Mackenzie Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central), Bryce and Camacho won the 400-yard medley relay (4:20.85), while O'Hara, Emily Castagnetti (Staten Island/St. Joseph Hill Academy), Murphy and Alayna Miller (Hilton) won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:48.26). 
 
Casey earned a spot at the NCAA Division III Diving Regionals after posting a second-place score of 412.43 points on the 1-meter board. It's the second time she met the NCAA standard this season on that board, with the first coming last Sunday with her score of 405.40 points at the Ithaca College Dick Comanzo Diving Invitational. Casey also hit the NCAA 3-meter standard with her runner-up score of 413.10 points. 
 
Men's Recap: 
 
Cortland opened the meet with a win by Makiah Poli (Cortland/Home schooled), Mason Arnberg (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills East), Ethan Domanico (New Windsor/Newburgh Free Academy) and Jack-Henry Whalen (Yorktown Heights/Yorktown) in the 400-yard medley relay (3:37.65). Poli also won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.05), Arnberg won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.27) and Whalen won the 100-yard butterfly (53.59). 
 
Sean Zupko (Montgomery/Valley Central) was a double winner, capturing the 100-yard backstroke (55.39) and 200-yard backstroke (2:00.96). Hunter Bernhardt (Groton) won the 500-yard freestyle (4:49.44) and was the fastest swimmer as an exhibition entry in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:56.66). Lance Meeson (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) won both 3-meter diving (508.50 points) and 1-meter diving (470.93 points). Cortland's other winners included Mason Rowlands (Campbell Hall/Washingtonville) in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.22) and Kellen Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central) in the 200-yard IM (2:03.41). 
 
Ithaca Dick Comanzo Diving Invitational (Jan. 22) 
 
Results from the Ithaca College Dick Comanzo Diving Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 22 were not reported at the time of the meet. Casey finished fifth on the 1-meter board (NCAA standard 405.40 points) and ninth on the 3-meter board (388.55 points), and Madison Heffern (Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert Christian) was 12th on the 1-meter board (323.35 points).
