#11 Cortland Battles to 1-1 Draw vs. Brockport

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally 11th-ranked Cortland men's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie versus Brockport Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action at Holloway Field despite playing down a man for 72 minutes, 14 seconds.

Senior Mateo Marra (Ossining) scored the goal for the Red Dragons (11-2-2, 5-1-1 SUNYAC). Sophomore Scott Schuyler (Cincinnatus) assisted on the goal. Sophomore goalie Jordan Ott (Fort Worth, TX/Southwest Christian) stopped five shots.

Junior Andy Cespedes (Elmsford/Alexander Hamilton) tallied the goal for the Golden Eagles (7-2-5, 4-0-3 SUNYAC) with freshman Sean Lee (Seoul, South Korea/Plainview-Old Bthpage) assisting on the score. Senior goalie Andrew Taylor (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) made three saves.

Cortland grabbed the lead in the sixth minute on Marra's sixth goal of the season. Schuyler sent a pass across the top of the box to Marra on the right side who one-time a shot into the upper right corner of the goal. Just over 12 minutes later, Cortland was issued a red card when a player attempted a bicycle kick at the top of the box. Brockport eventually capitalized when Cespedes scored from a sharp angle on the right side in the 33rd minute.

In the second half, the Golden Eagles controlled much of the play with ball possession. In the 51st minute, sophomore Max Voyer (Williamsville/Williamsville South) missed wide right at the back post on an open header. Despite having limited possession, the Red Dragons were able to generate a quality chance in the 75th minute, but Marra missed wide left with a one-time strike from the right side of the box. Two minutes later, Ott kept the score at 1-1 when he punched a 25-yard shot by sophomore Alex Rivara (Commack) that was headed for the upper right corner over the crossbar. Brockport continued to press the Red Dragons, but Cortland was able to prevent any more dangerous chances and held on for the 1-1 draw.
