NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The nationally 12th-ranked Cortland men's soccer team scored a pair of second-half goals in defeating New Paltz, 2-0, Wednesday afternoon in SUNYAC play at South Turf Field. The Red Dragons improved to 12-2-2 overall and 6-1-1 in the conference. The Hawks dropped to 8-2-4 and 3-2-2.
Junior
Yasin Choukri (Wilton, CT) scored both Cortland goals, his ninth and 10th of the season. Sophomore goalie
Jordan Ott (Fort Worth, TX/Southwest Christian) stopped two shots for his eighth shutout of the season. Goalie Christian Micheli registered three saves for New Paltz.
After a scoreless first half, Choukri scored the game winner in the 50th minute. He intercepted a crossing pass by a New Paltz defender near the top of the box. The ball popped in the air, and he volleyed a shot over Micheli. In the 64th minute, Choukri added an insurance goal. After receiving a long pass down the left sideline, he carried into the box, beat a defender and deposited a shot in the lower right to make it a 2-0 game.
After the second goal, Cortland only allowed two shots the remainder of the game. Ott made a save in the 76th minute, and the Red Dragons blocked an attempt in the 80th minute and locked up the 2-0 win.
