#14 Cortland Closes SUNYAC Slate with 4-0 Win at Oswego

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The nationally 14th-ranked Cortland field hockey team completed the SUNYAC portion of its schedule with a 4-0 victory at Oswego Wednesday afternoon at Laker Turf Field. The Red Dragons improved to 14-1 overall and 6-0 in the conference and outscored their league opponents, 27-1, in the six games. The Lakers dropped to 5-12 and 1-5.

Graduate student Elizabeth Pratt (Saratoga Springs) and juniors Gianna Trunfio (Clinton), Jamie Snyder (Liverpool/Cicero-North Syracuse) and Hanna Corrigan (Barneveld/Holland Patent) each tallied a goal for Cortland. Junior Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland) registered three assists.

Sophomore goalie Emma Morgan (Whitney Point) made three saves in posting her seventh shutout of the season for the Red Dragons, including her fifth in conference play. Goalie KY Philips stopped six shots in 49:29 for Oswego before giving way to Sydney Bialek, who registered one save over the final 10:31. Erin Schaefer recorded a defensive save.

Pratt scored what proved to be the game-winning goal 16:42 into the game when she converted a penalty stroke for her second goal of the season. Trunfio made it a 2-0 score at the 22:18 mark with her team-high 15th goal of the season, knocking down a pass from Ettere and scoring from in close.

Snyder's 10th goal of the campaign came 4:56 into the third quarter as she redirected a pass by Ettere past Philips on a penalty corner. Corrigan pushed the lead to 4-0 at 41:48 when she took a pass from Ettere on a penalty corner and sent a shot between Philip's pads for her sixth goal of the season. The Lakers had a late chance to spoil the shutout bid, but Morgan made a kick save on an uncontested shot by Kacie Simzer with 1:30 to play to seal the 4-0 win.

The Red Dragons close out their regular season at Skidmore on Saturday and host Brockport in a SUNYAC Semifinal game next Wednesday at 2 p.m.
