CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland men's hockey team built a 4-0 lead early into the third period and went onto a 5-2 win versus Wilkes Saturday night in non-conference action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons improved to 2-0. The Colonels dropped to 0-1.

John Kuhl (Essex Fells, NJ/Boston Jr. Rangers) scored a pair of goals for Cortland. Junior
Domenic Settimo (East Meadow/P.A.L. Junior Islanders) tallied a goal and an assist, and sophomore
Devlin O'Kane (Chicago, IL/New Jersey 87's) and freshman
Robert Hyde (North Babylon/New Jersey Titans) each added a goal.

Graduate student Billy Berry (Redding, CT/Charlotte Rush) and sophomore Matt Carlson (Delmar/New Hampshire Avalanche) netted the goals for Wilkes with junior Joe Johnson (Midland, MI/Metro Jets) earning an assist. Graduate student Michael Paterson-Jones (Baldwinsville/Charlotte Rush) started in goal, making 22 saves in 46:07. Junior Jack Perna (Sykesville, MD/Carolina Jr. Hurricanes) stopped five shots in 12:12.
Cortland took a 2-0 lead after the first period on Kuhl's goals. He opened the scoring at 4:56 on a shot from the left point through traffic. His second goal came at 15:40 when he put a rebound into an open goal from the left circle.
O'Kane put the Red Dragons ahead 3-0 at 4:19 of the second period on a rebound goal, and Hyde pushed the lead to 4-0 6:07 into the third period with a wrist shot from the right side on a long rush. Berry put the Colonels on the scoreboard with a short-handed breakaway just over a minute later before Carlson scored on a loose puck in front to cut Cortland's lead to 4-2 at 13:49.
Wilkes pulled Perna with more than two minutes remaining and earned a power-play with 2:01 left in regulation for a two-skater advantage on the ice. Cortland sealed the win when Settimo converted a short-handed goal into the empty net with 1:03 remaining for the 5-2 final.
