#11 Cortland Drops First Game of the Season at #14 Elmira, 3-0

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – The nationally 14th-ranked Elmira women's ice hockey team scored a goal in each period in earning a 3-0 victory versus 11th-ranked Cortland Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at the Murray Athletic Center. The setback was the first of the season for the Red Dragons (7-1-1), while the Soaring Eagles improved to 5-2.

Junior goalie Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) registered 36 saves for Cortland, including 20 in the third period to keep the game close. Goalie Leonie-Louise Kuehberger stopped 15 shots for Elmira.

Claire Meeder, Emma Bradbury and Emily Lenzen netted the goals for the Soaring Eagles. Anna Lugge, Lexi Hoffmann, Erika Goleniak and Alayna Toole each picked up an assist.

Meeder gave Elmira the lead 5:42 into the first period when she converted a Soaring Eagle 3-on-1. Bradbury made it a 2-0 game at 14:19 of the second period.

In the third period, the Red Dragons killed off two Elmira power plays and pulled Goergen for an extra skater with 1:39 remaining. With under a minute on the clock, Lenzen forced a Cortland turnover in its defensive zone and sealed the win with an empty-net goal at the 19:31 mark for the 3-0 final.
