CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's swimming and diving team finished in first place out of six schools at the two-day Snow Flurries Invitational, hosted by the Red Dragons Friday and Saturday at Holsten Pool.
Cortland finished with 1,191 points, followed by Oneonta with 714 and Potsdam with 393. Rounding out the field were Fredonia (389), Jamestown Community College (375) and Western Connecticut State (72).
The Red Dragons recorded nine individual and five relay victories at the meet.
Leah Bernhardt (Groton) won three events - the 500-yard freestyle (5:15.82), the 1,650-yard freestyle (18:25.14) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.62).
Ella Garrow (Peru) took top honors in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.44) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:37.45),
Madi Monaghan (Chili/Gates Chili) won the 200-yard individual medley (2:20.29),
Caitlin Elsasser (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:19.30),
Areiannah Martinez-Reyes (Queens/Benjamin Cardozo) was victorious in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.64), and
Alayna Miller (Hilton) won the 100-yard freestyle (55.99).
Emily Lantry (Massena/St. Lawrence), Garrow,
Julia Bryce (Rochester/School of the Arts) and Miller won the 200-yard medley relay (1:54.85). Lantry, Monaghan,
Sophie Amering (Rochester/Hilton) and Bernhardt teamed to win the 800-yard freestyle relay (8:16.83), while Lantry, Garrow, Martinez-Reyes and Miller won the 400-yard medley relay (4:13.15). Monaghan, Martinez-Reyes, Bernhardt and Miller combined to win the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:44.37) and Lantry, Miller, Bernhardt and Martinez-Reyes won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:47.86).
Amering and Lantry each earned three individual runner-up finishes - Amering in the 500-yard freestyle (5:29.94), 200-yard freestyle (2:05.68) and 1,650-yard freestyle (18:42.77), and Lantry in the 200-yard IM (2:22.92), 100-yard backstroke (1:03.69) and 200-yard backstroke (2:17.07).
Emma Bogdanowicz-Wilson (Schenectady) placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.98) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:41.26) and
Alyssa Haberlack (Long Beach) was second in 1-meter diving (326.95 pts.) and 3-meter diving (310.35 pts.). Miller finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (25.77), Monaghan was runner-up in the 400-yard IM (5:01.67), Bryce placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.62) and
Rhianna Lynch (New Hartford) was second in the 100-yard freestyle (59.04).
In addition to its five relay wins, Cortland also recorded four second-place relay finishes: Martinez-Reyes, Bogdanowicz-Wilson, Elsasser and Lynch in the 200-yard medley relay (1:57.85);
Kaitlyn Devaney (Lynbrook), Lynch, Elsasser and
Angie Gittschau (Camillus/West Genesee) in the 800-yard freestyle relay (8:40.89);
Kaila O'Hara (East Islip), Bryce, Garrow and
Mackenzie Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central) in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:46.59); and Amering, O'Hara,
Anna Stahurski (Oakdale/Connetquot) and Monaghan in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:58.96).
Cortland will be idle until a dual meet at New Paltz on Jan. 13.
