Berke gave Cortland a 1-0 lead 6:13 into the game. The Red Dragons forced a turnover, and the puck ended up with Berke who deked the Oswego defense and scored from deep in the slot. Przystawski made it a 2-0 game at 9:43 of the first period on a quick snap shot from inside the blue line that beat Schell over his shoulder. Flack put the Lakers on the scoreboard at the 17:14 mark on a rebound goal in front. Seitz answered just over a minute late when he scored on a backhand in front after he was hit with Beaudry's shot in the slot.

Krykostas then netted back-to-back goals early in the second period to build a 5-1 lead for Cortland. He scored on a wrist shot from the right circle to the far post at 2:11 and finished off a cross-ice pass from Seitz at 6:29.
