Cortland Handles Mustangs, 6-1

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland men's hockey team scored the final five goals of the game in defeating Morrisville, 6-1, Saturday night in SUNYAC action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons improved to 14-8-1 overall and 9-5 in the conference. The Mustangs fell to 7-16 and 3-11.

Freshman Devlin O'Kane (Chicago, IL/New Jersey 87's) led Cortland with two goals. Freshman Colby Seitz (Eden/Corpus Christi IceRays) and junior Sutter Donegan (Cicero/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) tallied a goal and an assist. Seniors Giancarlo Romano (Yorktown/Connecticut RoughRiders) and Matt Jahn (Glen Allen, VA/Charlotte Rush) each netted his first goal of the season.

Freshman Nicholas Serio (Bayville/P.A.L. Junior Islanders) recorded two assists, while six others collected one assist apiece. Senior goalie Luca Durante (Brampton, ON/Aurora Tigers) stopped 23 shots.

Sophomore Chris Mott (Nesconset/Hampton Roads Whalers) scored Morrisville's goal with sophomores Curtis Abbott (Belmont, ON/Brantford 99ers) and Domenic Della Civita (Trenton, ON/Markham Royals) picking up assists. Freshman goalie Grant Linville (Edmond, OK/Seahawks Hockey) made 32 saves.

Seitz put Cortland ahead 7:09 into the first period when he deked Linville in front and scored on the backhand. Mott tied the game on the power play just over two minutes later, scoring on a wrist shot from the left circle after receiving a cross-ice pass from Abbott. Romano put the Red Dragons ahead for good at 10:45 of the first period, scoring with a wrist shot through traffic from just inside the blue line.

Donegan made it a 3-1 game on the power play before O'Kane's first goal of the game on a wrist shot from the left circle at 19:04 gave Cortland a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes. Jahn scored on a loose puck in front at 7:35 of the third period, and O'Kane completed the scoring with a rebound goal with 5.6 seconds on the clock for the 6-1 final.
