CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland men's hockey team opened up a 5-0 lead at the midway point of the game and skated to an 8-1 victory versus Fredonia Friday night in SUNYAC action at Alumni Arena. With the win, the Red Dragons improved to 15-8-1 overall and 10-5 in the conference and clinch a home quarterfinal game in the league playoffs next Wednesday. The Blue Devils dropped to 7-16 and 5-10.

Junior Nate Berke (Buffalo/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) and freshman Colby Seitz (Eden/Corpus Christi IceRays) each recorded two goals and an assist for Cortland. Sophomore Domenic Settimo (East Meadow/P.A.L. Junior Islanders) tallied five points on a goal and four assists.

Senior Nick Grupp (Depew/Brantford 99ers), junior Sutter Donegan (Cicero/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) and freshman Zack Smith (Courtice, ON/Cobourg Cougars) each netted a goal for the Red Dragons. Senior Matt Jahn (Glen Allen, VA/Charlotte Rush) and sophomore Johnny Facchini (Succasunna, NJ/P.A.L. Junior Islanders) collected two assists apiece. Senior A.J. Przystawski (Burlington, CT/New Hampshire Avalanche) and juniors Cameron Knowlton (Kenai, AK/Charlotte Rush) and John Kuhl (Essex Fells, NJ/Boston Jr. Rangers) chipped in with an assist. Senior goalie Luca Durante (Brampton, ON/Aurora Tigers) turned aside 21 shots.

Junior David Sudbrink (Nolensville, TN/Ogden Mustangs) scored Fredonia's goal off an assist from junior Johnny Aonso (Toronto, ON/Stouffville Spirit. Junior Logan Dyck (Calgary, AB/Notre Dame Hounds) started in goal, making 15 saves in 29:45. Senior Dalton Jerzak (Webster/New Jersey 87's) played the final 30:15, stopping 14 shots.

After the game, Cortland's seven seniors -- Grupp, Jahn, Przystawski, Durante, Jake Ballagh (Buffalo/New Hampshire Avalanche), Giancarlo Romano (Yorktown/Connecticut RoughRiders) and Trevor Veneklase (Brentwood, TN/Seahawks Hockey Club) -- were honored.
