Three Red Dragons Compete at Day 1 of NCAA Diving Regional

Lance Meeson is competing at the NCAA regionals for the second straight year
ITHACA, N.Y. – Three SUNY Cortland athletes competed during Day 1 of the NCAA Division III Region 4 (Northeast/South) Women's Diving Regional, hosted by Ithaca College.

In the women's 3-meter competition, senior Ashley Zachgo (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) placed sixth with a score of 445.70 points and senior Adriane Casey (West Islip) finished 22nd with 334.15 points. Zachgo was in a tight group of finishers near the top as less than 12 points separated the second through sixth-place scores.

On the men's side, junior Lance Meeson (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) finished 16th on the 1-meter board with 377.90 points. Freshman Kevin Kohlhoff (West Islip) qualified for regionals but was unable to compete due to injury.

Zachgo is making her third NCAA regional appearance. She finished ninth on the 3-meter board last year and 16th in 2020. Meeson is making his second NCAA regional showing. He was 12th on the 1-meter board last year.

Competition continues on Saturday at noon with the women's 1-meter competition at noon, followed by the men's 3-meter event at approximately 5 p.m.

A total of seven women and five men will advance to the NCAA Division III Championships in Greensboro, N.C., March 15-18. For each gender, qualifiers are chosen in alternating fashion, starting with the top finisher on Day 1, then the top finisher on Day 2, then the second finisher from Day 1, and so on. Those who have already been chosen are skipped for the next finisher on that board. The NCAA will officially announce the national qualifiers on Monday, as the final qualifying spot may come down to adding scores from both boards.
