Zachgo Registers NCAA Qualifying Finish at Second Day of NCAA Diving Regional

ITHACA, N.Y. – Cortland diver Ashley Zachgo (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) has tentatively earned a berth into the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships after finishing in fourth place on the 1-meter board during Day 2 of the NCAA Division III Region 4 (Northeast/South) Women's Diving Regional, hosted by Ithaca College.

Zachgo posted a score of 447.60 points and should receive one of the region's seven NCAA berths. The national championships will be held March 15-18 in Greensboro, N.C. Qualifiers from the regional are chosen in alternating fashion, starting with the top finisher on Day 1, then the top finisher on Day 2, then the second finisher from Day 1, and so on. Those who had already been chosen were skipped for the next finisher on that board. The NCAA will officially announce the national qualifiers on Monday.

(UPDATE: The NCAA confirmed that Zachgo has qualified for the national championship meet)

In addition to Zachgo on Saturday, Adriane Casey (West Islip) finished 21st out of 23 on the 1-meter board with 358.25 points.

In men's action, Lance Meeson (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) placed 13th of 17 on the 3-meter board with a score of 418.15 points.

Zachgo was making her third NCAA regional appearance and is heading to nationals for the first time. Meeson was making his second straight NCAA regional appearance and Casey was diving at regionals for the first time.

Zachgo was in a tight battle for the fourth through sixth places. Her final score was only three tenths of a point ahead of the fifth-place finisher and just over five points better than the sixth-place finisher.
