PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The nationally fourth-ranked Plattsburgh women's ice hockey team scored three unanswered second-period goals and skated to a 3-1 victory versus Cortland Friday night at Stafford Arena. The same teams conclude their season series Saturday at 3 p.m.
Sophomore
Mia Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) scored her team-high 10th goal for the Red Dragons (15-5, 10-3 NEWHL). Junior
Jillian Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) and freshman
Fanny Aneborn (Linkoping, Sweden/Lulea HF Sweden) recorded assists. Sophomore goalie
Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) registered 41 saves.
Lily Stumm, Ivy Boric and Nicole Unsworth netted the goals for the Cardinals (19-2, 13-1 NEWHL. Six different players recorded an assist. Goalie Ashley Davis turned aside 24 shots.
Hlasnick gave Cortland a 1-0 lead at 4:24 of the first period, scoring on a rebound after Davis made an initial save. Stumm started Plattsburgh's three-goal run with a shot from the slot at 1:57 of the second period. Boric then scored on a rebound on the power play at 5:50, and Unsworth deflected the puck past Goergen at 7:22.
On a late power play in the third period, Cortland pulled Goergen for an extra skater but the Cardinals held off sustained pressure by the Red Dragons and sealed the 3-1 win.
