13th-Ranked Cortland Pulls Away for 10-6 Win vs. Endicott

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. – Cortland scored five straight goals over the game's final 17 minutes and the nationally 13th-ranked Red Dragons defeated Endicott College, 10-6, in a non-league women's lacrosse game at Colorado College. 
 
Lauren Hopsicker (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and Hannah Keech (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) led Cortland (3-2) with three goals apiece. Rachel Janis (Laurel/Mattituck) finished with two goals and one assist, Amy Hoeffner (Bay Shore) and Rachel Rempe (Aquebogue/Riverhead) each scored once, and Madelyn Czyz (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) notched two assists. Margaret Morgan (New Fairfield, CT) made six saves. 
 
For Endicott (2-2), Katy Garvin registered two goals and an assist and Carly Pierce scored twice. Katie Schenk and Kiana Napolitano each tallied a goal and Katie Wagner had one assist. Lydia Akins recorded five saves. 
 
Cortland led 2-1 after one quarter and extended its lead to 4-1 on goals by Hopsicker and Janis in the first eight minutes of the second. Endicott, however, finished the half on a 3-0 run, including two Garvin goals, to tie the game at halftime. 
 
The Gulls held a pair of one-goal leads in the third quarter, the last at 6-5 on a Napolitano goal with 2:12 left. Cortland struck for two goals to end the period – Keech at the 1:24 mark and Rempe with four seconds remaining – and the Red Dragons took a 7-6 lead into the fourth. Keech, off a feed from Janis, made it 8-6 with 13:00 left in the contest. Hoeffner tallied at the 11:46 mark to up the lead to 9-6 and Keech converted a Czyz pass with 4:12 left to finish the scoring. 
 
Kayla Sweeney (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) led Cortland with four ground balls and Hoeffner and Rempe each won four draw controls. Cortland held a 24-21 edge in shots and 26-22 lead in ground balls, and each team won 10 draws.
