CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally 16th-ranked Cortland men's lacrosse team built a 6-0 lead early in the second quarter and went onto an 18-10 victory versus Skidmore Wednesday night in non-conference action at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 5-1, while the Thoroughbreds had their five-game winning streak snapped and fell to 5-2.

Sam Rothman each collected an assist.
Wagner turned aside 13 shots and allowed seven goals in 52:09. Freshman Nick Mathes (Smithtown/Smithtown East) made four saves over the final 7:51 in his first collegiate action. Sophomore
Owen Neubauer (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) won 13-of-21 faceoffs and secured five ground balls. Sophomore

Junior Charlie McFadden (Edmonton, AB/Cashing Academy (MA)) led Skidmore with seven goals and an assist. Sophomore Jon Bouvier (Hopkinton, MA/Pomfret School) registered a goal and two assists. Sophomore Nicolo Mazzocca (West Hartford, CT/Northwest Catholic) and freshman Will Fekete (Branford, CT/Avon Old Farms) each netted a goal, and junior Charlie Kessler (Charlotte, NC/St. Paul's School) and sophomore Brian Gonsalves (Holliston, MA/The Rivers School) contributed one assist.
Sophomore goalie Collin Keuster (Manhasset) stopped 13 shots and secured three ground balls. Junior Jack Fitzpatrick (Cohasset, MA) won 10 faceoffs and scooped up eight ground balls. Sophomore Luke Curtin (Wellesley, MA/Belmont Hill School) won 5-of-9 faceoffs. McFadden added four ground balls.
The Red Dragons opened up a 4-0 lead after the first quarter as Starrett scored twice and Yancey and Yacavone netted goals. Goals from Scanlon and Palmer early in the second quarter pushed the lead to 6-0. McFadden finally ended Skidmore's 18:05 scoring drought with his first goal of the night at 11:55, before Cortland ran off three straight goals to build a 9-1 lead. McFadden netted back-to-back goals, and
Klay Stuver capped the first-half scoring at 2:00 to give the Red Dragons a 10-3 lead at intermission.
Two goals from Chiodo and another from Starrett made it a 13-3 game with 6:32 remaining in the third quarter. Three different players followed with goals for the Thoroughbreds to pull them to within 13-6, but goals from Morris and Chiodo in the final 14 seconds of the quarter put Cortland in control, 15-6. Skidmore outscored Cortland, 4-3, over the final 15 minutes as McFadden added three more goals, while Smith, Scanlon and Stuver scored for the Red Dragons for the 18-10 final.
