Cortland Handles New Paltz, 16-3, on the Road

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The nationally 19th-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team held New Paltz scoreless for a stretch of 46 minutes, 12 seconds spanning the first to fourth quarters in defeating the Hawks, 16-3, Wednesday afternoon in SUNYAC play. The Red Dragons raised their overall record to 11-3 and SUNYAC mark to 7-0. The Hawks dropped to 8-5 and 4-3.

Graduate student Amy Hoeffner (Bay Shore) recorded six points on four goals and two assists and also contributed eight draw controls and two caused turnovers for Cortland. Sophomore Nicole Iapoce (Highland) tallied a career-high five points on three goals and two assists and caused three turnovers.

Graduate student Hannah Keech (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) netted three goals and added an assist, scooped up four ground balls, won three draws and caused three turnovers. Graduate student Lauren Hopsicker (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and freshman Rachel Rempe (Aquebogue/Riverhead) each scored twice with Rempe securing four draws. Sophomore Eva Kloepfer (Syracuse/West Genesee) and freshman Mackenzie Beck (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) notched one goal apiece, while senior Rachel Janis (Laurel/Mattituck) and junior Toni Cashman (East Moriches/Westhampton Beach) each chipped in with an assist.

Freshman goalie Margaret Morgan (New Fairfield, CT) made three saves for the Red Dragons. Goalie Gabriella Tommaso registered eight saves and two caused turnovers for New Paltz.

Morgan Atwater, Kaitlyn Shaw and Alyssa Indelicato scored goals for the Hawks. Shannon Brosnan and Maddie Gillis each chipped in with an assist. Ella Malanga caused five turnovers, and Brosnan recorded three caused turnovers.
