CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally 19th-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team scored the first seven goals of the game and defeated Geneseo, 14-8, in a matchup of unbeaten SUNYAC teams Saturday afternoon at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 12-3 overall and took over first place in the conference with an 8-0 record. The Knights dropped to 11-4 and 7-1.

Isabel Adams (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) had four ground balls.
Freshman Alain Reina (Chili/Churchville-Chili) paced Geneseo with three goals. Junior Megan Cook (Massapequa) netted two goals, and senior Maira Brennan (Irondequoit), junior Emily Salanger (Syracuse/Liverpool) and sophomore Molly Brown (Cazenovia) each scored a goal.
Graduate student Maggie Rosaschi (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) started in goal for the Knights, making one save in the first half. Junior Emily DeJohn (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) registered one save in the second half. Senior Meg Seeley (Cazenovia) secured three ground balls and caused two turnovers, and senior Lindsay Merenda (Locust Valley) also finished with three ground balls. Junior Tricia Curran (Hamburg/Frontier) won seven of Geneseo's 18 draw controls, while Brown secured six draws.
Cortland took a 6-0 lead after the first quarter as five different players scored goals with Hoeffner netting both of hers. Kloepfer's goal 4:23 into the second quarter made it a 7-0 game. Cook ended Geneseo's scoring drought of 25:25 with her goal 4:35 before the half, but Beck and Hopsicker put the Red Dragons ahead, 9-1, at the break with two late goals.
Beck scored all three of Cortland's goals in the third quarter as Reina and Salanger scored for Geneseo, and the Red Dragons took a commanding 12-3 lead into the fourth quarter. The Knights cut Cortland's lead to 13-6 with three of the first four goals of the quarter. Beck's sixth and final goal made it 14-6 with 4:01 remaining before Brennan and Reina completed the scoring for the 14-8 final.
