#19 Red Dragons Clinch Top Seed in SUNYAC with 15-7 Win vs. Oswego

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally 19th-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 7-1 lead after the first quarter and went onto a 15-7 victory versus Oswego Wednesday night at the Stadium Complex in the SUNYAC finale for both teams. With the win, the Red Dragons improved to 13-3 overall and completed their conference schedule at 9-0. The Lakers dropped to 12-4 and 7-2.

Cortland will host the winner of the first-round game between fourth-seeded Brockport and fifth-seeded New Paltz on Wednesday, May 3. The Lakers earned the third seed and play a first-round game versus sixth-seeded Oneonta on Saturday.

Junior Toni Cashman (East Moriches/Westhampton Beach) led the Red Dragons with four goals and an assist. Graduate student Hannah Keech (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) also scored four goals. Freshman Mackenzie Beck (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) tallied three goals and an assist, sophomore Nicole Iapoce (Highland) scored twice, graduate student Lauren Hopsicker (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) finished with a goal and three assists and freshman Rachel Rempe (Aquebogue/Riverhead) netted a goal. Senior Rachel Janis (Laurel/Mattituck) chipped in with an assist.

Freshman goalie Margaret Morgan (New Fairfield, CT) made six saves and collected two ground balls for the Red Dragons. Graduate student Amy Hoeffner (Bay Shore) secured 12 draws and five ground balls, surpassing the century mark for draws this season. Rempe added three ground balls, three draws and two caused turnovers, and graduate student Amanda Squillini (Stony Point/North Rockland) contributed two ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Senior Sela Wiley (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire Academy) paced Oswego's offense with three goals and an assist. Senior Madison Davis (Whitesboro) tallied a goal and an assist, and juniors Isabella Lembo (Massapequa) and Julia Quirk Syracuse/West Genesee) and sophomore Katie McNally (Hillburn/Suffern) each scored a goal.

Junior goalie Sarah Kamide (Watertown/Immaculate Heart) registered 11 saves and picked up three ground balls. Quirk won four draws, Wiley added three draws, two ground balls and two caused turnovers and senior Shae McConnell (Seneca Falls/Mynderse Academy) finished with two caused turnovers.
