Red Dragons Rout Lakers, 22-5, in Regular-Season Home Finale

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Thirteen different players scored goals as the Cortland men's lacrosse team defeated Oswego, 22-5, Wednesday afternoon in SUNYAC action at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons improved to 11-4 overall and 5-1 in the conference, earning the second seed in the upcoming league playoffs. Cortland will host a semifinal game next Wednesday. The Lakers dropped to 6-5 and 4-2.

Sophomore Klay Stuver (Fairport) led all scorers with five points on four goals and an assist for the Red Dragons. Senior Tyler Starrett (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) and sophomore Caden Yancey (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) each tallied three goals and an assist, and sophomore Ryan Smith (East Islip) also netted three goals.

Senior Jason Chiodo (Hamburg) finished with a goal and three assists for Cortland, while seniors Dante Yacavone (Homer) and Troy Morris (Long Beach), sophomore Ryan Scanlon (Cornelius, NC/William Amos Hough) and freshman Nick Stoecker (East Setauket/Ward Melville) recorded one goal and one assist apiece. Sophomores Kole Stuver (Fairport) and Joe DeLany (Camillus/West Genesee) each added a goal, and junior Bradley Cunningham (Syracuse/West Genesee) and sophomore Tristan Triolo (Northport) scored his first goal of the season. Juniors Johnny Bowen (Yorktown) and Colin Peers (Fairport) chipped in with an assist.

Senior goalie Matt Stento (Bethlehem) turned aside 10 shots and collected three ground balls for Cortland. Sophomore Rich Finn (LaGrange/Arlington) won 11-of-14 faceoffs and controlled six ground balls. Sophomore Owen Neubauer (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) was successful on 8-of-14 faceoffs and scooped up four ground balls. Senior Justin Wainwright collected five ground balls.

Junior Liam Sexton (Camillus/West Genesee) led the Lakers with two goals. Junior Gavin Elston (Horseheads) and sophomores Jason Dongelewic (Albany/Colonie) and Connor Aspinal (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) each scored a goal, sophomore Max Brodman (Penn Yan/Penn Yan Academy) registered two assists and sophomore Corey O'Connor (Watertown/General Brown) added an assist.

Senior Aiden Kenyon (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) started in goal, making 12 saves through three quarters. Freshman Tyler Novak (Bethlehem) stopped four shots in 7:41, and freshman Seamus Hand (Penfield) recorded one save over the final 7:19. Freshman Logan Prescott (Lancaster) won nine faceoffs. Senior Evan Coleman (Horseheads) grabbed four ground balls, while Brodman and junior Cameron Yost (Victor) each secured three ground balls.
