PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Cortland men's lacrosse team built a commanding 15-3 lead at the half in earning a 20-9 victory at Plattsburgh Saturday afternoon in the SUNYAC finale for both teams. The Red Dragons improved to 12-4 overall and 6-1 in the conference, while the Cardinals fell to 2-13 and 0-7.

Cortland, which earned the second seed in the upcoming SUNYAC playoffs, hosts third-seeded Oswego on Wednesday, May 3, at a time to be determined.

Senior Dante Yacavone (Homer) scored a season-high six goals to lead the Cortland offense. Sophomore Caden Yancey (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) netted three goals, senior Jason Chiodo (Hamburg) tallied five points on two goals and three assists, and junior Colton Smith (South Bristol/Penn Yan Academy) and sophomore Klay Stuver (Fairport) each scored two goals.

Senior Troy Morris (Long Beach) recorded a goal and two assists, sophomore Ryan Scanlon (Cornelius, NC/William Amos Hough) and freshman Jono Arena (Sachem/Sachem East) finished with one goal and one assist apiece, freshman Nick Stoecker (East Setauket/Ward Melville) added a goal and sophomore Owen Neubauer (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) scored his first goal of the season for the Red Dragons. Senior Justin Wainwright (Homer), sophomores Sam Rothman (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills East) and Joe DeLany (Camillus/West Genesee) and freshman Ben Nyberg (Chantilly, VA) each chipped in with an assist.

Senior Matt Stento (Bethlehem) started in goal for Cortland, stopping six shots and giving up just three goals in the first half. Sophomore Owen Folkwein (Avon, CT) made three saves in the third quarter, and freshman Nick Mathes (Smithtown/Smithtown East) turned aside four shots in the fourth quarter.

Neubauer won 9-of-14 faceoffs and scooped up seven ground balls. Sophomore Rich Finn (LaGrange/Arlington) was successful on 7-of-13 faceoffs, and freshman Josue Cruz (Glen Head/Long Island Lutheran) won 4-of-6 faceoffs. Wainwright collected six ground balls, Finn and Cruz each secured four ground balls, and sophomore Logan Schanars (Melville/Half Hollow Hills East) finished with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

John Eiseman led Plattsburgh with three goals and an assist. Owen Lorenzetti tallied two goals and an assist. Mike Walsh finished with a goal and two assists, Gustav Rugg recorded one goal and one assist, Michael Swift and Tim Keenan each netted a goal and Cam Morin contributed an assist.

Dan Clements played the first three quarters in goal, registering 12 saves and three ground balls. Jack Mulcahy made four saves in the fourth quarter. Jimbo Farrelly won eight faceoffs. Eiseman, Walsh, Rugg, Julian Pigliavento and Jack Brien each recorded three ground balls.
