ITHACA, N.Y. – The Cortland field hockey team jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the half and went on to earn a 3-1 victory at Ithaca Wednesday night in a non-conference game. The Red Dragons improved to 3-0 with the win. The Bombers dropped to 3-2.
Juniors
Gianna Trunfio (Clinton),
Hanna Corrigan (Barneveld/Holland Patent) and
Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland) each tallied a goal for Cortland with junior
Sydney Reinisch (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) collecting an assist. Sophomore goalie
Emma Morgan (Whitney Point) stopped two shots.
Meara Bury scored the goal for Ithaca. Goalie Alex Clough registered four saves, while Emma Garver recorded a defensive save.
Trunfio gave Cortland a 1-0 lead just 5:29 into the game on a penalty stroke. Corrigan made it a 2-0 score at the 22:08 mark, drilling a high shot from the top right. Ettere put the Red Dragons ahead, 3-0, just under four minutes later when she finished off a cross from Reinisch that eluded Clough. Bury put Ithaca on the scoreboard 10:42 into the third quarter on a rebound, but Cortland held the Bombers to just one shot in the fourth quarter to seal the 3-1 win.
