CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's soccer team scored the game's lone goal midway through the second half to earn a 1-0 victory versus Ithaca Wednesday night in non-conference play at Holloway Field. The Red Dragons improved to 3-1-1, while the Bombers suffered their first setback, dropping to 3-1-1.

Kristen Spendal (Dumont, NJ) made one first-half save in posting her first shutout of the season for the Red Dragons. Although credited with the one official save, Spendal made several outstanding plays on dangerous serves into the box. Junior goalie Grace Hickey (Trumbull, CT/Saint Joseph) registered three saves for Ithaca.
In a game with very few scoring chances, the Bombers generated the first opportunity in the 22nd minute, but sophomore Kaelyn Fernandez (Snohomish, WA/Henry M. Jackson) missed high on an open header on a cross from the left side.
Ithaca nearly took the lead in the 65th minute. Junior Julia Cascone (New Milford, CT) served a corner kick into the box that senior Rosie Bostian (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) headed off the crossbar. Cortland eventually cleared the ball out of danger. Three minutes later, Neivel struck for the game winner. Allen possessed the ball deep on the left side and fed a cross through traffic that found Neivel at the top of the six-yard box on the right side, where she drove a shot into the right side of the goal. The Bombers pressed late trying for the equalizer, but Cortland kept Ithaca from getting any shots on the frame to hold onto the 1-0 win.
