CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally 23rd-ranked Cortland men's soccer team scored the final four goals of the game, including three in the second half, in defeating Alvernia University, 4-1, Saturday night in non-conference action at Holloway Field. The Red Dragons improved to 5-1-1 on the season. The Golden Wolves fell to 2-3.

Senior Jack Coleman (Newark Valley/Maine-Endwell) led Cortland with two goals. Junior Matt Shultz (Oneonta) scored his team-high fifth goal of the season and added an assist. Junior Yasin Choukri (Wilton, CT) notched a goal, junior Logan Comfort (Cazenovia) collected two assists and sophomore Scott Schuyler (Cincinnatus) picked up an assist. Sophomore goalie Jordan Ott (Fort Worth, TX/Southwest Christian) made five saves.

Junior Justin Fetrow (Birdsboro, PA/Daniel Boone) tallied the goal for Alvernia with junior Ryan Cogill (West Chester, PA/West Chester East) recording an assist. Junior goalie Evan Solley (Reading, PA/Oley Valley) stopped nine shots in 83:42 before giving way to sophomore Nick Rothenberger (Barto, PA/Boyertown), who did not face a shot on goal over the final 6:18.

Fetrow gave the Golden Wolves the lead just 3:15 into the game, taking a cross from the right by Cogill and putting a shot off Ott's hands and over the goal line. Alvernia nearly added another goal in the 22nd minute, but Ott made a leaping save at the upper left ninety off a header from freshman Zeke Zambrano (Casa Grande, AZ/ASU Prep). Cortland tied the game in the 27th minute when Shultz drove a shot from the left side inside the right post from 15 yards out.

The second half belonged to the Red Dragons as they out shot the Golden Wolves, 19-5, over the 45 minutes. Choukri scored what proved to be the game winner just 1:24 into the half with a shot inside the right post from deep in the box. In the 55th minute, Coleman finished off a cross from Comfort with a one-time strike to make it a 3-1 game. Alvernia nearly cut into the lead in the 60th minute when Cogill possessed the ball alone in the box. Ott charged off his line and denied the bid by Cogill. Coleman completed the scoring with a one-time shot inside the right post in the 81st minute for the 4-1 final.
