Ettere Posts Hat Trick, Reaches 100 Career Points, as #21 Cortland Defeats Oneonta

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland) scored three goals and became the 14th player in school history to reach the career 100-point mark as nationally 21st-ranked Cortland opened SUNYAC play with a 7-1 win over visiting Oneonta.
Cortland improved to 5-0 overall with the win. Oneonta fell to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference. Cortland will host Geneseo Sunday at 1 p.m. in a game that was pushed back from its original date on Saturday.

Ettere's three goals give her career totals of 45 goals and 10 assists for 100 points in 42 games. She ranks 10th at Cortland with her 45 career goals.

Jamie Snyder (Liverpool/Cicero-North Syracuse) added a goal and an assist for the hosts. Hanna Corrigan (Barneveld/Holland Patent), Gianna Trunfio (Clinton) and Molly Miller (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) each scored once. Emma Morgan (Whitney Point) made three saves.

Alexandra Howell scored Oneonta's goal. Maura  Leib made 16 saves and allowed five goals over the first three quarters. Among Leib's saves was a stop on a first-quarter penalty stroke. Chelsea Dodenhoff played the final 15 minutes in the cage and made two saves while allowing two goals.

Ettere got things started quickly for Cortland with two goals in the game's first six minutes. She scored off a reverse-stick shot, assisted by Snyder, 2:15 into the contest and added an unassisted goal on a shot from just inside the circle at the 5:13 mark. Cortland extended its lead to 5-0 in the second quarter. Snyder beat her defender on the right end line and scored from a tough angle 1:34 into the period. Corrigan controlled a rebound after her initial shot was saved and blasted in a shot to make it 4-0 just over a minute later, and Trunfio connected on a penalty stroke with 2:39 left in the half.

Oneonta netted the game's only goal in the third quarter. Morgan stopped two shots before Howell, near the right post, knocked in a shot after a scramble in front. Ettere completed her third collegiate hat trick just 50 seconds into the fourth quarter after scoring off a rebound, and Miller closed the scoring with 4:31 remaining when she took a feed from Madison Oliver (Holland Patent) and found an opening for a shot from the right side.

Cortland outshot Oneonta, 38-5, and earned all nine of the game's penalty corners.
