BUFFALO, N.Y. – Despite holding a commanding 28-2 advantage in shots, the Cortland women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw at Buffalo St. Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC action.
The Red Dragons (6-2-2, 2-0-1 SUNYAC) outshot the Bengals (5-3-2, 0-3-1), 9-1, in the opening half and 19-1 in the second 45 minutes of play. Cortland also held a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior goalie
Kristen Spendal (Dumont, NJ) made one second-half save to earn the shutout for Cortland. Goalie Samantha Kaufman stopped seven shots for Buffalo St. The Bengals also registered two team saves in the game.
The Red Dragons pressed late in looking for the game winner but could not get a shot inside the frame. Sophomore
Julia DeTurris (Hicksville) had a possible goal denied by a Buffalo St. defender in the 76th minute. Freshman
Tyla Vuotto (Lynbrook) missed wide in the 80th minute, and senior
Kayla Valerioti (Oakdale/Connetquot) shot wide in the 82nd minute.
The Red Dragons earned two late corner kicks in the 87th and 90th minutes, which produced two scoring chances, one each by Vuotto and senior
Simone Neivel (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker), but both shots missed wide in the final minute of play as the game ended at 0-0.
