ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rochester women's soccer team scored a goal in each half and defeated nationally 21st-ranked Cortland, 2-0, Monday afternoon in non-conference action. The Red Dragons fell to 0-1-1, while the Yellowjackets improved to 2-0.
Junior goalie
Kristen Spendal (Dumont, NJ) registered three saves for Cortland. Goalie Grace Kuropatkin stopped two shots in earning the shutout for Rochester.
Claire Grover tallied both goals with Natalie Kocsis and Sarah Martin collecting assists.
Grover gave the Yellowjackets an early lead, slotting a 14-yard shot into the lower right in the seventh minute. She added an insurance goal in the 48th minute, accepting a chip pass from Martin and hitting a shot to the lower right from 13 yards away. Cortland had a late chance to get on ther scoreboard, but Kuropatkin made a save on sophomore
Julia DeTurris' (Hicksville) shot in the 88th minute to preserve the 2-0 win.
