CORTLAND, N.Y. – Junior goalie Matt Bidini made 44 saves as the King's men's hockey team skated to a 2-0 victory at Cortland Saturday night in non-conference action at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons dropped to 10-5-1 with the setback, while the Monarchs improved to 6-9.
Senior goalie
Jack Riedell (Greensboro, NC/Charlotte Rush) registered 21 saves and allowed one goal in 58:53 for Cortland. Juniors Ethan Hersant and Mauro D'Alessandro each scored goals for King's. Juniors Kent Lee, Jackson Grozelle and Jakub Viedemann collected assists.
Hersant scored what proved to be the game winner at 18:58 of the first period, beating Riedell with a wrist shot over the glove from the left side. The Red Dragons dominated much of the play in the second period, outshooting King's, 19-5, but couldn't net the equalizer.
The third period was more evenly played with the Monarchs eventually holding a narrow 12-11 shot advantage. Cortland killed off two King's power plays in the period to keep it a 1-0 score and pulled Riedell at the 18:53 mark for an extra skater. The Red Dragons kept possession for the majority of the time, but D'Alessandro sealed the win with a length-of-the-ice shot into the empty net just before the final horn sounded for the 2-0 final.
