ONEONTA, N.Y. – Cortland outscored Oneonta 31-12 in the second half to break open a tight contest and the visiting Red Dragons defeated the host Red Dragons, 67-47, in women's basketball action.
Cortland improves to 10-4 overall and leads the SUNYAC with a 6-1 league mark. Oneonta is 4-9 overall and 2-4 in the SUNYAC.
Logan Streety (Elma/Iroquois) led Cortland with 16 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks. She made 8-of-12 shots from the field.
Brooke Tillotson (Marathon) scored 11 points,
Abby Wilkinson (Cato/Bishop Grimes) scored nine points and
Jackie Funk (Penfield) added seven points.
Lily Woodis (Dewittville/Chautauqua Lake) led Cortland with three assists and
Mariah Huss (Kenmore/Sacred Heart Academy) tied her career high with seven rebounds.
Oneonta was led by Molly Stephens with 15 points. She also dished out three assists. Amanda Zuntag tallied 11 points, Jenna Harclerode ended with nine points and seven rebounds and Nadia Brown had four assists.
Oneonta led 12-2 three minutes into the game before Cortland scored 10 straight to tie the score. Oneonta held a 19-14 lead after the first quarter and was up 28-21 with less than seven minutes remaining in the second. Cortland rallied and took the lead, 36-35, entering the break.
Cortland started the third quarter on a 11-0 run, beginning with five points from Woodis, followed by four by Streety and two Wilkinson free throws. Cortland led 54-39 after three quarters and by at least 12 the rest of the way.
Cortland finished the game shooting 52 percent from the field, including 59 in the first half. Oneonta shot 50 percent in the first half, but Cortland held the hosts to just 12 percent shooting (3-of-26) over the final 20 minutes.
Cortland returns to action Friday at 4 p.m. at Fredonia.
