FREDONIA, N.Y. – Cortland scored the game's final 10 points and the Red Dragons defeated host Fredonia, 70-55, in SUNYAC men's basketball action.
Kendall Arcuri (Staten Island/St. Joseph by the Sea) led Cortland (7-8, 4-4 SUNYAC) with 21 points and four steals and also recorded six rebounds and three assists.
Jaylen Warmack (Utica/Utica Notre Dame) finished with 14 points, six rebounds and three assists and
Kareem Lubin (Monroe/Washingtonville) tallied nine points and led the Red Dragons with eight rebounds.
Aaron Coston (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley) and
TayShaun Hawkins (Riverhead) each scored eight points. Coston also finished with seven rebounds and a team-high four assists.
Danny Linehan (Blauvelt/Tappan Zee) chipped in with seven points.
Malik Jemison scored 16 points and added five rebounds and three assists for the Blue Devils (5-10, 2-5 SUNYAC). Elian Dominquez scored 12 points and pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
Cortland led 40-26 at halftime and by 16 points at 48-32 with about 16 minutes left. Fredonia fought back and closed to within five, 60-55, on a Keenan Roberts Jr. basket with about six minutes left. Cortland held the Blue Devils scoreless the rest of the way. Buckets by Warmack and Hawkins extended the lead to nine with about four minutes remaining, followed by an Arcuri basket. Warmack provided the final four points with less than two and a half minutes left to seal the win.
Cortland plays at Buffalo State Saturday at 4 p.m.
